Well as the subject line says I"m not the sharpest nail in the bag. I have learned that a 1/4 inch chain will support various ford, chevy, and chrysler motors but it will not support an Oliver 88 Diesel engine. Maybe the universe or whomever is telling me that its maybe time to stop, grow up, and take life seriously. I will say this the sound is the most sickening sound you can imagine. Of course it has to nose itself down breaking off the injection pump crushing the front pullies cracking housings and thats as far as I got inspection wize before I went to the bar.

ouch man. im sorry. had that happen to a race engine. didnt thread the bolt in very deep n used the forklift to lift out of the back of the truck. bolt came out, engine flipped on top of the new 650 holleys n tunnel ram. i drank heavily that night, n worked hard for the next 4 months to replace the parts i destroyed. lesson learned.

Yeah that hurts.
You can count in stupid forklift operators as well.

I bought once a sweet running used 6 cyl deutz engine as replacement for a gen set.
When i went to pick it up the retard that drove the forklift drove both forks straight trough the block(engine was strapped to a pallet) and proceded to load it on my trailer like nothing happened :roll:

If murder was legal i would've killed the idiot :x

I guess we"ve all had at least one 'ahh s..t'occurance happen to us.It sounds like only something metal and replaceable got hurt.I know thats not particularly what you want to hear but.....

Here in BC they have a whole series of "what was I thinking" public service announcements. You know the guy on the ladder on the top step, guys doing 10 things while driving... etc. I think about them when I am on a ladder. They don't have a engine lifting ad yet.

I call it the " If only I could put time in reverse and recover those 15 seconds of stupidity". I spend 45 years flying big iron for a living and have a few lucky times where I survived my "Oh Shi*s"" however several of my friends were not so lucky. Learn from your mistakes and move on...no one hurt, nothing to see here.

And then there's the old guy who loaded stuff at the local machinery auction. I bought a manure spreader, was especially pleased that it had a built-in jack for the tongue. He chained to it to move it, and didn't lift before he started pulling- the jack folded like a cheap card table.

Never had one with a built in jack before. Still don't.

Apparently there were other complaints, too- never saw him doing that duty at the sale after that, and he died not too long after. Guess he was starting to "lose it".
