88 blowing oil out the exhaust

My 88 is blowing raw oil out of the exhaust...is running down the exhaust pipe.

No antifreeze in the oil and no oil in the antifreeze.

Was running it today...slow speed and not wide open. It is smoking...blue but not heavy.

My guess is a ring job? Any thoughts?

You didn't say gas or diesel. He assumed diesel, in which case he was likely right. Not really his fault as that is a typical problem with under-loaded diesels?

Seems like you need to check the spark plugs, crankcase breather and maybe for any valve stem seal damage.

A dry then wet check on compression might then be in order to actually diagnose the state of the engine?

O. K. Like Rich (RAB) asked, have you done any checking? How old of an 88 is this? Need a serial number here. What I am asking does it have the late style rocker arms? Take the manifold assembly off and get a good flashlight and see how oily the valve stems are to start with.

I take it this is a gas engine. They usually burn any oil that get into the cylinder so I would expect your problem is exhaust valve guides.

Tractor is a 1949 model...gasoline.
We are going to tear into it this week and see what we can find.
Thank you for your responses!!

Sounds silly, but first check to see how much oil is in the oil bath breather. My 66 started blowing oil out the exzaust after I hauled it in the rain. Too high an oil level and it will go right through the carb.
