Cletrac EGH

Evening, I just bought a Cletrac EGH. Have been on the forums for a couple of years in the IH section since I own a Super A. The Cletrac is in good shape, recently rebuilt engine but have to pull start it, the compression is so tight, cant start with the hand crank. Are there many owners of Cletracs on here?
Looking forward to meeting folks
Thanks
Greg

O. K. now the early Model E crawlers are not "streamlined" later ones were. do you have a serial number and where are you located?

It should not be that difficult. Maybe not the correct starting handle?

Maybe not the correct parts when rebuilt?

Maybe not rebuilt properly (apart from piston type/size).

First thing I would recommend is to remove spark plugs and check the torque required to turn it over. If excessive, watch out for tight bearings, wrong piston ring end gaps, or some other problem. If there is a problem, the motor may not last long before serious damage results.

I live just outside of Sedalia Mo, and it is an EGH-68. Serial No. is SN-5R-40. its a 1938 model. The gentleman I bought it from is a retired heavy equipment mech. and has several cats and cletrac"s. He said that it just needs 10-12 hours on it to lets things seat. He replaced the pistons and rings .30 over stock. Starts really easy by pulling, and runs great. Just wish I could start with the crank. Machine is great mechanically, going to try to restore cosmetically in the next year or so.

I'm in the process of rebuilding an Oliver HG. It, too, has a recently rebuilt engine and a starter. Because of some electrical issues, we were trying to start it with the hand crank. I could barely get it to go round, let alone with enough force to start the engine. We did finally get it started with the starter and were subsequently able to start it with the crank after <1 hr of engine time. It had hardly been run since the rebuild and was real tight.
