old style 88 question

I came across a 1948 88. It has steamlined sheet metal but has 2 bolt hubs and a cast pto lever on the left hand side. Should this of had old style sheet metal or did the later 1948 have the steamline look with some of the old style parts?

I have had two 1948 88 stream lines with 2 bolt hubs neither though had pto"s, I have also had a 49 Oliver 77 with left hand pto but it had three u bolt hubs. I have heard early stream line 77 had two bolt hubs but never seen them.

I have a old style 1948 Oliver 88 and it does have the freeze plugs and also the two bolt hubs on back. I have been told some dealers put the new sheet metal on the older style ones to make them look like the new style. Remember too that the old style sheet metal is different and very hard to find so it possible with a tractor over 65 years old that someplace along the line the sheet metal was damaged so they put the new style on it. Do you have band brakes on it?

I didn't look at the brakes but I did notice it had the smaller pedals. I guess it could of had the rearend changed at some time with an old style and have a later front half.

Your tractor is almost 2000 newer than the last rowcrop (S/N 121300) than the last one built with the old style sheet metal.

They only made around 1300 of the streamlined, but in early to mid 48 they changed to fleetline. So you could have a 48 88 just not a streamlined.

Looks like we have a definition problem in this discussion. All Row Crop 88s after the first 1300 were known as Fleetlines. All Row Crop 77s were Fleetlines. I'm not sure but I don't believe the early 88s were identified by Oliver as streamlines at the time they were introduced but in recent times these early 88s have been described as streamline (same basic design as the 60s and later 70s.

I had a 1948 88RC(sold it) #121572 New style tin fleetline,Left side PTO and 2 clamp hubs.It had the band brakes with the long pedals.I believe it was #372 with the new style tinwork. My 77 also has the long brake pedals but I think it is a 1950,My 1950 88 standard has band brakes but has the short pedals with the linkage rod...It's neat to track down all the little changes they did durinf production.
