1600 gas not firing

My 1600 gasser woke up this morning firing on only 4 cylinders. No prior problems at all. Has spark to the plugs which I replaced. No unusual mechanical noises. Still starts and runs but sounds a little to much like the other green tractors. Any ideas. This is my snow mover here in MN. so no time to waste.

Is it sparking at the right time though? I had one that was sparking just before it came up on compression as near as I can figure. Every now and then when I'd try to start it,it acted like it was firing just as it was starting up on compression, wanted to kick back just a little.

A little help might be good. Which two pots are affected? Adjacent pots or adjacent in firing order would help, perhaps, as a start to try to narrow down the possibilities.

Its the second and fourth cylinder as seen from the operators seat. Have a cap and rotor on order. Will try that first.

For future reference, that cap and rotor are the same as an older Chevy 6 cylinder and available off the shelf at any auto parts store.

Almost certainly the cap as it is two adjacent HT outlets on the cap (3 and 5). One other possibility - the two HT leads have been swapped around.

The rotor will be good. If they fail to earth all six would be shorted.
