2-135 III Steering Motor Pics

Anyone ever had one of these apart? Dad replaced the one on his 2wd 2-135 series III a couple of weeks ago. The tractor would spontaneously dart to the left as you drove it down the road, so it was getting a little dangerous on the highway. The replacement was pretty pricey, so I took the old one apart to see what was wrong. The unit wasn't leaking, the motor number is 212 1053 001. Other than a bunch of gunk (technical word), I can't see anything wrong with this stuff. I left the pieces just as they came out, so nothing has been cleaned up yet. Any ideas on what might have been the cause of the darting? Could the gunk inside the motor have been causing this?

A worn gear rotor is generally what causes those to dart one way (the two parts that are on the left side of your top and second photo) check both parts to see if there appears to be small flat areas worn in to them . I haven't done one in years but those two parts could be purchased separately at one time for rebuilding a unit .

Well, sure enough, there are little flat spots on both sides of the gear set, had to look pretty close. This would cause it to dart? Guess I'll have to see if you can buy these anymore.

Call me monday, 563 382 4530 I have a source for these other than agco. Considerably less cost, same exact unit.
