Hydraulics on 77

Considering buying a 1949 Oliver 77 Row Crop. Don't know much about Oliver's as I'm a John Deere guy so bear with me. This tractor does have what appears to be rocker arms for operating cultivators etc but no hydraulic scv outlets. I would like to use this tractor for show and maybe raking hay on the ranch. Is there any way to add hydraulic couplers/scv's to a 49 Oliver 77. Any help would be appreciated. Joe

Well first of all is the tractor equipped with a mechanical lift to operate the cultivators or is it a hydraulic unit? Hydraulics can be added if it has a mechanical lift.

I thought the input shaft was different and would have to be changed to run hydraulics in place of the cultivator lift?

they are not different all you do is take out the pto shaft, take off the rollamatic or the empty slot and put in the hydraulic unit. however some things need to change, if the area never had anything there is a plate that blocks the pump. also if there was nothing there before the hydraulic unit the shifter lever from the empty slot doesn't work with the hydraulic unit base plate, and i don't know if the lever from a rollamatic is the same or different from a hydraulic shifter lever.

Thanks for the info. I haven't had time to go over the tractor yet but the cultivator arms were just behind the rear of the hood/gauges area and appeared to get its power from below where it is mounted in the transmission/bell housing area just in front of the steering wheel. Does that mean it is gear driven? If I understood correctly, I can remove the cultivator arm stuff and replace with a hydraulic unit, hydraulic shifting linkage, PTO integration, etc. Do you think this process is laid out in any Oliver service manuals? I won't get too far ahead of myself as I'm still waiting on the owner to commit to selling me the tractor. If he agrees to sell it, I will also need to find a generator and bracket as it currently is running off a battery. I'll have to come back to get more info on who sells Oliver aftermarket parts and used parts. Is there an Oliver publication on Oliver tractors like the "Green Magazine" and "Two Cylinder" magazine for the other green tractor. My wife and I have always been a big fan of the older Oliver tractors so we hope to own one soon. You help is greatly appreciated. Joe

You said: also if there was nothing there before the hydraulic unit the shifter lever from the empty slot doesn't work with the hydraulic unit base plate. The shift levers are the same. The socket the shift lever sets in is different. The one for a hydraulic unit will have an A behind the casting number.

if the tractor never had a hydraulic unit installed you will have to remove the pto shaft support which is located just under the lift you are taking off, the pto shaft goes through it, remove the pto shaft from the rear. the input shaft needs to be cut just behind the rear bearing and can be cut while in the tractor with a good carbide blade. an IT manual would be good to have. I have a perfect top lever series 3 I think that I would like to sell and includes the shifter mount that you will need. you can call me @ 973-948-0693 Chuck
