1800 power steering leak

Got the 1800 running.... There is a leak from the power steering unit. I tilted the wheel up and it looks like some has cut away the outer metal housing to expose the inter ( rotating ) part ot the steering ...Maybe to access the leak.

It is definatly coming out the top and is not a hose.

Can you give me some guidance ? I look at removing the das with all those wires ..ugh.

There is an O-ring & a back up ring that holds the unit into the housing. There is also a lip seal that seas the shaft. They are not bad to do and you do not need to unhook all the wires. It probably has been close to 40 years since I have done one. You need to unhook he tach & speedometer cables and fold the top part of the dash over. You do not need to unhook all the wires unless soeone has added items to the dash.
