Adusting front axle on 1950

Whats the best way you guys have found to narrow up an adjustable front axle that hasn't been moved in 40 years?

I have a John Deere that the front hadn't been moved in 50 years, I wanted to widen it.
I took out all the bolts,clamps, heated it and bathed it in plenty of penetrating oil, took the porta power and used a lot of force, had to heat it several times and used a sledge hammer to tap on it,soaked it some more and left the porta power on it for a couple days and it finaly came apart
