880 and White 2-85 two speed

In earlier posts I read about using a 2 speed from a 2-85 or 2-
105 white to replace my power booster. Would I still have
problems changing gears when in underdrive? Do I use the
Oliver shifter and does it shift on the left? How hard is it to
make this change? Thanks in advance.

The 2-85 would have a three speed unit in them. The input shaft would not work either as they have Perkins engines in them. Also all two and three speeds shift on the right side. How are you planning to hook the power to the transmisson? Are you using the chain coupler or the meshed gears that the 85 and 105 have?

At this time I am using the chain coupler. All I know is what I read in the earlier posts plus what Paul has added. Earlier post mentioned that the 2 or 3 speed would fit right in. That"s all I know. Any additional info is much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Don.

Get a two or three speed out of a 1650 or 1655. That should bolt in if you are using a chain coupler. Maybe you should measure the length of the unit from front of bellhousing to rear of chain coupler to make sure there is enough room in the frame??? You will have to come up with a shifter rod of some sort.

Somebody claiming it will "fit right in" is more than a stretch. Can it fit? Yes, will it bolt right in? No. Get a good measurement, and you will see that the frame of the 880 is too short to allow a simple "bolt-in". It can be done given enough time & money. If I recall correctly, you need to gain about 5 inches to allow for the factory radiator setup. Less if you are willing to use an electric fan. But you will need to build a saddle to put between the frame and the transmission casting. Measure your room on the 880, then find a 1600 or 1650 to measure. You will soon see what I am saying. I think you will also have some grind time on the inside of the 880 frame to make a little more room for the hydrapower. Good luck.
