Late vs early '55 gear shift

Does the gear shift lever from a 1973 or later "55 series fit in a 1971 1855? The later ones were bent so they were ahead of your right knee. The older ones were in line with the steering column. I know I can probably bend the one I have but if a ready made one is cheap enough I"d buy it.

We bend every one over we get, same on the whites, easy to do, heat it up with a torch and bend.

The gearshift lever in my 1975, 2-105 was bent to the right and extended about 8-10 inches taller. Sure made getting off and on a lot easier and less cracked knees.
