What is the 236ua like ? Were they a good engine ? Can they stand a turbo ? Are parts still readily accessible ? How many HP were they in the naturaly aspirated configuration ? Is it the basic engine that went on to be badged as Cat ? Where is a good place to get parts from , for this engine ?

First of all what do you have in mind for the engine? Do you have an engine "picked out" If so does it have a build number? Right now the letter U indicates it is an engine build in the UK. This morning I am drawing a blank on the letter A. It in a way is a 4 cylinder version of the 354 and if it is like a 354 there are many variations. Turbo wise there are many internal differences between an engine with turbo and engines with out a turbo in the same displacement in the Perkins line up. I am sure it has been superceeded with the phaser line of Perkins. My 2 cents worth

The engine has been put into a 1650 Oliver. The other numbers under the236ua are 12419. The numbers in the casting down lower on the engine are 37112600x1. The tractor has been setting in a barn for what appears to be many years. The farmer that made the conversion has long passed. The engine is free , the valve cover was not secured and when removeing it , the pushrods were all off the rockers ,with rust over everything. The timing gear even exhibited some surface rust when looking in the oil fill plug hole. The tractor is priced at scrap value. No 1 seems to know if the unit ever ran or not. The conversion really didn't look that bad. I just can't imagine that it had more power than what it replaced.

Ken I would guess you are like me also in Ohio/ Where and do you have a phone number? Do you know what a 248 Perkins engine is?

J.Schwiebert my cell is 740 262 6280 , I'm in north central Ohio. If you could shed some light onto this give me a call. Thank you Ken

Thank you for setting me straight on some of my questions on the 236 and Olivers in general. The 1650 that is in your neck of the woods belongs to A.J.Darby . His phone # is 419 230 3362 . The directions he gave me were from Beaverdam . Take 696 north to St.Rt.12 . Cross 12 and continue north to the second road to the left , this will be road 0 . Turn left on 0 and go to the 1st road to the right . This will be 7L . AJ's place is the 6th house on the right as your heading north . He has quite a few Allis Chalmers setting around and saturday when I was there he had a 1800 Oliver setting beside the driveway . The 1650 is setting behind his shed with the Allis's setting in front of shed . Good luck and tell him I sent you , although after asking for my check back , he will probably start spouting a bunch of French , at the mention of my name ! LOL Thanks again Kenny
