Just picked up a 1800 gasser kinda cheap I think it's a B. I mow and run a small round baler with my 1650 gasser now. 1650 is in love with gas cans. How much worse will the 1800 be doing same work?

Well the 1800 still holds the record as the most fuel efficient gas tractor based on the nebraska tests and it is a 6 and up plow tractor so around 75 horse.

I'll have to look into that. Seem like a lot fuel per hr to me. Should have her home this weekend see what I got myself into?

keep the RPM's lower and it will impress you how easy it is on gas increase the RPM's and get a second job to pay for the gas

Cant say for sure, But my Long 900 I filled it up with diesel fuel(holds 22 gallon) pulled a 14ft harrowgatter and 14ft packer and pulling hard the hole time acrossed 25 acres. Got done and hooked the planter up (8 row 20 inch AC no-till) and planted 18 acres of beans. Next morning I put 15 gallon in and it was full to the top. 15 gallon on 43 acres is pretty easy on fuel in my book, That's .348 gallons per acre for an 85 hp diesel tractor working all day. Not bad at all. Bandit

The only place I could imagine an 1800 pulling 6 bottoms is in beach sand unless it is weighted hevy and in a slow gear, we pulled 4-14's with out 1800b dsl.

No Offense, but I used to plow with an 1800A and 6 bottoms on a Muck Farm in Wisconsin back in the '60s. No problem at all.

My 1800 C diesel does good to pull 4X16's has more that it wants with a 13' field cultivator and I have to find the fuel tank at noon and 5:00 pm. Afraid to hook on to the 7 shank chisel.

Grew up running an 1800 series "a" gasser. The other poster is correct that the series "a" 1800 was the most fuel efficient gas model tractor ever tested at Nebraska. We pulled 4-16 mounted oliver plow with that 1800 and then dad found a 5-16 semi-mounted oliver plow that could either drop a bottom or could be made into 14" bottoms too if desired - we never did either. That oliver pulled those 5-16.

Wish I still had that tractor as it is my alltime favorite tractor to work ground with even over the INT 1066 we got later which was nice but always liked that Oliver. Sold everything back when dad died back in the early 1990's.

Now for the bad news: Once the hydra power was added to the series "b" and series "c" then the fuel consumption increases considereably. Granted the power increased slightly too but the fuel efficiency went down.

I could be off base, but in my opinion that hydropower must rob some fuel efficiency. Even the last Oliver and White diesels with the hydrapowers are not anywhere near as fuel efficient as diesels from other manufacturers of the same eras. Take it a step further look at a 1850 with the perkins diesel and then look at say a Massey Furgeson 1100 that also used the same basic perkins diesel engine. The Massey is way more fuel efficient. Only explanation that I can think of is that hydropower robs fuel economy - thehydrapower is durable though.

In short, If that 1800 was a series "a" then I think your fuel use would be almost identical to your 1650 gasser. Since it is a later series then it will use more fuel but it will have a tad bit more power than your 1650. Sounds like you made a good buy so I would not fret it too much.

Might want to do some more homework comparing the 1850 and
the 1100. The 1850 is 6.3 gallons an hour max on the PTO and 6.3
on the drawbar. The 1100 is 6.1 for PTO and 6.2 at the drawbar.
Thats really not much of a difference. And thats with both tractors
working at full throttle. The 1850 is a very efficient tractor. Cousins
said it was their most efficient baler tractor.

Got her home today . A little rougher than I'd hoped. Hydro power linkage is froze. I got it to move but not from the shifter. I'm in it for 17.

That is a nice looking tractor and if I understand what you wrote is all you have in it so far is 1700 you have one heck of a tractor good luck with your new toy

Plowed a lot of acres with an 1800 A Gasser pulling a 5X16 Oliver plow with pipe backbone, 98% of time in 3rd direct. Shucks we even did that with a 1600 gasser too, but it had bigger sleeves and pistons.
