1855 remotes

Last year when I was cutting hay with the hydroswing on our 1855, I was turning on the headland and one of the tires on the haybine must have found a rut, causing a surge in the hydraulic system. After that, the hydroswing would creep in when swung out to one side. I think to the left. I swapped remotes and then it was fine for lifting, and the other one was fine for turning, but it was really hard for me to adjust to it.

Also worked fine last year for a 500 bu. manure spreader w/ hydraulic driven apron. I put a female coupler right in the drain plug on the back of the reservoir to return the oil straight to the reservoir, instead of back through the remotes. Worked great. I know it'll be a problem again on the haybine though.

What would I be looking for to fix it? A blown o-ring in the stack up? Would I need to remove the frame for the ROPS on the hydraulic side? It looks like it's gonna be a really tight fit otherwise to work on it.

Something I'd like to fix at some point, but it may not be until after 1st or 2nd crop.

I did just buy a new seat cushion for it though... Looking forward to putting it on.

There is a nylon(?) plunger in there that acts as a check valve, it may be leaking. As far as removing it with the roll guard in place I don't have a clue. Never seen but one roll guard on an Oliver and it was not a 55 series. I do know we removed the valves from a 2-85 with a cab but you almost had to hold your mouth right.

well, it is a roll bar off a 2-85... It looks like a tight fit in there. where is that plunger? between the banks?

J. is referring to two poppets one is behind the plug on the back of the valve that has the flow control screw in it the other is on the front side of the valve just below the valve the lever hooks to. both can be removed with the valve on the tractor there will be a spring and a poppet inside each one. the seat these poppets seat on have an o-ring on them also they can be removed by hooking them with a piece of wire with a hook on it. The early 55 series used a smaller poppet then the later ones.
you will need to drain the hydraulics before you get into it.

Thanks for the heads up to drain it. Would've been a mess if I weren't warned. I'm planning to change that oil some time soon anyway so I'll have to do it then. I blew a hose going to the outlet yesterday so I should have lots of fun getting a wrench on that... might just replace them all while busting my knuckles on one...
