Oliver 550 temp guage

This is a stupid question but here goes. The temp gauge on my 550 isn't working. I have replaced the sending unit but still nothing. Where do I go from here? Thanks for any advice.

   The indicator on the dash has power supplied to it any time the switch is in the "I" position.  Power flows through the indicator then through a wire to the sending unit on the engine then to ground through the sender.
   Take the wire off the sender and ground it to the engine block and turn the switch to "I".  The indicator should go all the way to hot side.  Should it not move you have an open in the wire some where.  Ground the terminal on the indicator that has the wire to the sender and indicator should go to hot.
