1755 Hydaulic Oil

I can't seem to keep the hydraulic oil where it belongs in my 1755.

Last fall I determined that I had oil leaking through the PTO (Quad rings?) into the gear compartment. I had topped of the tank, ran the tractor for 2 hours spreading manure, and then had to add a half a gallon to bring the tank back to where it was before I started. I blocked off the PTO line, ran the tractor at 1600 rpm for an hour and the tank stayed full. So that is a problem I need to fix.

That was probably 5 months ago. I ran the tractor the other day for 5 minutes, just to see if it would start. That is the only time it has been running since I blocked off the PTO line. Today I check the hydraulic tank and I am not anywhere near the end of the dipstick. I would say I am a half to a full gallon low.

Can anyone tell me where that oil went over the winter?

Thanks.

You can have a leak several places. You will need to trouble shoot the unit. Do your spring work and then work on solving the problem. I would check the seal on the draft control rod first.

I don't have a dipstick back there, but I have no idea where else it could be going. There is no external leaks, so I have to believe it is going to the gear compartment.

Thanks

There are two plugs near the PTO. They are a high and low plug for the oil level in the rear end. A 3/8 inch ratchet fits in the plugs. Take the high plug out and see how much extra oil is in there.
