2255 Engines

Which diesel engines will directly bolt into a 2255, without modification? Passed on my 1655 repower project, but found a 2255 needing an engine, and just curious what engines could be put in without any extra work.

3208 and 3150 V-8 Caterpillar motors. The one in the picture above has a 3150.

3208 or 3150 were used in these tractors however look up the serial number and the year because there is some extra work in converting a 3150 to a 3208. if the tractor has a serial number before 248-722 it is a 3150 cat and anything past that number is a 3208.

Thanks for the help, I knew about the 3150 and 3208, but didn't realize there was a split like that. Are there any other engines besides the Cats that will bolt in?

those 2255 tubs were specifically built to hold those v-8 cat motors and the only way to really change it is to put on a different tub.

I believe the 3160 replaced the 3150 and it may bolt in without replacing tubs. I am not real familiar with the 3160, you may want to talk with a Cat mechanic. I believe New Holland may have used the 3150 & 3160 in its equipment as well.

There were 3 of those V-8 cat engine, the 3145, 3150 & 3160. The difference is the 3145 has a stroke 1/2 inch shorter than the 3150, the 3160 is a half inch longer than a 3150. Cat replaced all 3 with the 3208.
