question on rear wheels on 2255

I just recently purchased a second 2255 4wd and noticed that the rear wheels are not the double bevel type I have on all my other tractors with rear planetary. Instead the wheel have a space plate in them and they bolt directly to the planetary, not huge cast hub the others have. I suspect the cast hub adds significant weight but I thought it was pretty much standard. What was the reason for this type of rear wheel? Also how much play is allowed for the front pinion shaft before we need to redo it?

there were different options available at the factor for wheels and i believe, if i understand you correct, you have the lighter rear wheels. we have a 2150 like that where the wheel bolts straight to the planitary, course it is the wide tread design and we have it full of fluids.

Now that you mention it, the tires are very wide since all my other tractors run 18.4-38's. The issue I am looking at is the farmer who had the one I just purchased, never put it inside. The tires are severely damaged from sitting outside in the sun and good old Wisconsin winters. Trying to decide to if I want to replace the tires or install a set of 18.4-38's on it.

We make our own 38" centers and rims. We cut out the center plate punch the holes and weld to 18" wide rims. By building the rim this way wou can offset the rim in toward the tractor so that it is not as wide. Willing to make more and ship.
I will also make the center plates to your spec and you can weld them in.
