Oliver Plow

The two bottom plow in the picture isn"t tripping anymore. Any words to the wise or advice before I tear into the trip mechanism?

Loosen the nuts that compress the springs on the hitch. Keep plowing and it should trip. After it once trips, do not put oil or grease on the trip mechanism or you will not be able to stop it from tripping.

Are you asking about the trip mechanism to raise and lower the plow or the release on the hitch?

Yes the trip mechanism to raise and lower the plow. I think I figured it out hopefully it was just a broken spring inside of it. Have to wait for warmer weather and the snow to go away to find out if that did the trick.

I'm not familiar with the trip plows, mine all have cylinder lifts. That said, everything has to work freely, use a good penetrating oil and soak all moving parts down. Maybe use a handyman jack or a chain and loader to pick the frame up and work all the mechanisms so that they move freely. Sounds like your halfway there if you have found a broken spring. Chris

If you are referring to the cockscomb lift, and I remember right tooooo much oil and it would not work correctly, lite lube if I remember right diesel fuel or 10 wgt oil been years since I used one of those plows, but they worked good .
