770 cockshutt no power problem

Hello, I have a 770 cockshutt tractor and have a issue with it not lugging down under load. It will just power out and die. Even on the road, shifting from 3 to 4 it will almost power out. Also if you rev it up to fast it will kill the tractor... at full throttle i cant even take off in 4th gear on the road with no load behind it. I suspect it is something in the governor somewhere but I dont know enough about them to even begin taking it apart. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is it running out of fuel, don't know if it has fuel filter I'd check, if so I'd replace, check sediment bowl and, maybe take carb apart, if it is a gas, either way, sounds like it could possibly be lacking fuel, my opinion could be something else.

Hey G, sounds like a ram problem, needs twin turbos to make it run. just busting your chops, Chuck PS, as far as the 770 goes I agree that it is most likely starving for fuel

Lol, Nope, twin turbos sound like they'd be a nice bill to fix
after warentee is out, I'll keep running the hemi and will keep
the matneince bills very minimal. Hope you guys have luck
with them, and I hope you get your 770 running good again.

I just put a new fuel filter on, also all new fuel as I recently had to remove tank to replace throw out bearing. Will try a new filter cheap amd easy to do... I also put new points n condensor as well as plugs n wires.. I rebuilt the carb at that time as well. Should I pull the governor at this point?

I see how it is now, I'd say you'll have it fixed, guess you won't know tell you drive it, hope you got it fixed, let us know. Like to see your tractor to if you could post pictures that'd be great, the cockshutt are pretty hard to find

You said: Should I pull the governor at this point? I would say not. You need to check fuel flow first. Unhook the fuel line and see if it runs agood stream for at leat 10 minutes in a bucket. You may need to rig of a plastic tube and see what your float level is and what the float level in the bowl is when it bogs down.

Just because you rebuilt the carb doesn't necessarily mean you did it right. Could be you messed up the float setting or something.

Just because you replaced the fuel filter and put new gas in doesn't necessarily mean that you have good FLOW to the carburetor. Could be a clog in the line itself.

Ryan, Heres another idea, have someone on the tractor with it running and you watch the throttle linkage in front of the carb. and have him give it full throttle quickly and see if the carb. goes to wide open for a second and the backs down to normal. if the carb. goes to wide open throttle and backs off the governor is working. my friends 770 had a beetle stuck in the bottom of the fuel tank above the sediment bowl. take the bowl assemble off an drain the tank to get any and all debris out. just some thoughts, Chuck
