1555 vs 1655 for utility work

I have been trying to find a 1555gas or 1655gas for utility work(loader, mower, back blade, etc).
I thought I could get a 1555 cheaper than a 1655 because of the horsepower; however, that is not the case. The 1555 new sold for about $8000 and the 1655 sold for about $10000. Why has the 1555 value gone up? Should I just try to get the 1655 instead?

collector value is up on 1555"s because they were a lower production tractor. a rough 1655 gas sells for 3,000 and a nice one is 6,000.& up I have a 1655 gas with 1610 loader coming in. I will price it when it gets here.

thank you. the 1555g and the 1655g each have 3200hours with asking price of $5700 for the 1555 and $5500 for the 1655g.

Yes, and the 1555 will be a little less thirsty on fuel. I would say the local market is probably 4,000 dollars for a good 1555 gas and 4,500 dollars for a good 1655 gas. A restored 1555 will be about 500 to 1,000 dollars more than a restored 1655.

Only thing I'd be leary of on the 1555 is availability of some used parts that definately aren't available new. My 1550 is a late one. Has more in common with the 1555 than the early 1550. I broke a shift rod in it a few years ago and thought I was going to have to have one made. I called almost every place I knew. Finally called Owosso Tractor Parts and they had a 1555 that they hadn't torn down yet. Took a few days for them to get it apart, but they had it. Don't know where I would have found one if they hadn't had it. It might have been the last one on the face of the earth.
I'd think parted out 1650-1655-White 2-70s might be more common.

On the 1655, it could have a 3 speed, I think the 1555 only came with 2 speeds (Over/under).

Also, how much less does the 1555 weigh, will you ever need to haul the tractor anywhere?

1655 without any question. I have a 1555gas and a 1650 diesel. They are not even comparable tractors. The 1650 is older, more worn, but many times the tractor the 1555 is. I know nothing of their collector value.

I was going to mention the shifting, but wasn't sure if they went to helical gears in the 1555, so kept still. My 1550 was the straight cut gears, and you couldn't get it out of gear if you were in any kind of bind, unless you put Hydraul-shift in low range. Kind of a PITA, especially for loader work. And the 1550 was a little short on power, for its size. When I was doing tillage, I picked up an 880 diesel (corresponds to 1655) for $1,500, and was much happier with it.

I had a 1550 gas that I sold this winter. It ran like a million bucks and dyno'd 52hp but I always thought it was kind of a dog. It also took plenty of gas. I suppose a 16 wouldn't be easy on gas but the extra hp would make me feel a little better.
