The original subject was "371 Detroit".

WV Ike, could you give me some details on the 3-71s you have dyno"d? I have a 3-71 in a 52 GMC truck and looking for more power, it has the short port belt like the Olivers. I have the article from Oliver Heritage magazine issue 30. Thanks

1952? Is it original? That is about the time they got away from the engines with the head gaskets. What do you have in mind power wise? If you don't have an engine that uses a head gasket then going with the 4 valve head and the correct sleeves & pistons would help you a quite a bit. A guy around here farmed with one in a 990 and it would do a little over 100 H. P.

Yes, you could get the 3-71 factory in 52 and 53,in the 450 and 470 series GMC trucks. It is a high block, rated 105 hp factory. I want to use the 4 valve head for sure so I can use Jake brakes. Might go ahead and turbo it also. I think 160-175 horse is attainable with a little boost.

There was a guy that replied to an old post about 3-71s, his handle is WV Ike. Said he has dyno'd some and I would like to hear the results. WV Ike, do you still hang out here?
