Oliver 1800 or White 2-70

If you had your choice between these two tractors witch would you chose and why? The White is an early 70's. Lets assume tires are equal and engines are in equal mechanical shape. I know the Oliver is a litte older and a little more HP.
I know location has a lot to do with value but what would either of these be worth. I would guess tires would be about 70%. I know the white has always had a two row subsoiler planter unit hooked to the three point. It has never to my knowledge been ran hard. I do not know the history of the Oliver. From casual glances it lookes to be in good shape.
I know where one of each is sitting and I am considering approching the owners about selling.

On the 1800, is it gas, diesel or LP. Is it an A B or C series? Is the 2-70 gas or diesel? If it is an 1800 A series diesel the 2-70 if it is a diesel will have more power plus use less fuel. If the 1800 is a B series the 2-70 will have better hydraulics plus use less fuel if both are diesels plus the 2-70 will have better power steering. If the 1800 is a C series then things change a little bit. Plus the 2-70 has most likely a 3 speed, over under & direct while the 1800 will be under and direct only. What are you going to do with the tractor. Around here you would use something like that to spread fertilizer or run an auger or mow along the road.

I would be using it to pull a disk for tillage, a two row subsoiler planter combo (I already have it, currently using a 60HP JD) and run a disk mower to cut bermuda hay.

Thank You

I own a 1800 series c tractor. It is a good tractor. I use it from everything from spreading manure plowing discing, etc. I even use it to chop corn with a 2 row new holland chopper, slow, but does a good job. That being said, the hydralics on these olivers will drive you nuts. If your not a die hard oliver guy and are not used to the process of turning this screw out for a single acting cylender or in for something else, or vise versa it can be agrivating. The white is quite a bit newer and not that much less horsepower really so it might be the better choice. Don't get me wrong, I love my 1800 but they should have designed the hydraulic system a little different.

I'd take a 2-70 White any day of the week over an 1800, even if the White would be a gas and the Oliver would be a diesel. The White 2-70 is just too good of a tractor to pass up!

I'd go for the 2-70 for the 3 speed, however always be leery of anything with a waukesha diesel. 283s had a great reputation in the 1655s but I believe that when things got tighter for white in the late 70s, I don't think those 283s were built to the same standards they were in the 1655s. We had a 2-70 that had problems breaking crankshafts. It went through 2 and we sold it on the third. The next owner busted a crank too. Coulda been just a lemon but who knows. I know I'm gonna hear it from everyone over this but I just thought I would chip in my 2 cents.

It is your money. The 3 point on the 1800 will lift more. If an A or B series the hydraulics will be about 50% slower than on the 2-70. Also you will need to find an external bypass kit for the single acting cylinder. In 50+ years I have only saw one of those kits. Back then nobody had single acting cylinders. Does the disk mower use single acting cylinder(s)?

the 2-70 would be a far better. 18 speed for 2-70, 12 speed for the 1800 also much better resale. The power steering is much better on the 2-70.
