80 American Tach

I"m in need of a tach/hourmeter for my 80 American.I just rebuilt engine and would really like to have one that operates so I can keep track of hours and engine speed. Was told by dealer that they were no longer available. I haven"t been able to locate an aftermarket that will replace the original.

Are you sure it is the tach? If I remember correctly, the RPM sensor is in the alternator. Just wondering if the alternator is functioning properly, I am sure it can be charging and tach pickup sensor not working properly. Just a thought.

Yes it does use the pickup in the altenator. I just had the altenator rebuilt and it is supposed to be working,I haven't checked it for sure. Main thing is the tach worked til about a year ago and it quit. Hourmeter had quit probably 3 maybe 4 years ago.Hopefully can get both fixed. Had thought about taking it to a speedometer repair shop if can't find one. Thanks for the feedback Tony

just got a cataloge from ct farmsupply, it listed a electric tach for $85

that tach in the ct cataloge doesnt have hourmeter,but it is electric off alternator
