I spun a main brg.The crank needs work and one new sleeve on that hole.To do it right I think I should sleeve all 6 or pistons on the other five.It needs new valves and injector cups.The head and block are fine.Oil pump seems ok.If I replace all 6 with new pistons and sleeves I am looking at $3200.00.This does not include new oil pump(extra $395.00.

The used tractor was new to me and used oil.I neglected to check oil on a busy summer and was working it hard pulling a belly dump from a ditch.I was on a side hill and low on oil.

After tear down I discovered blow by,1 or 2 exhaust ports 3/4 plugged with carbon.I think the engine was ready for overhaul.Some say not to weld a diesel crankshaft.The machine shop its at,say he has no problem.
Any more info would be appreciated.

You can weld diesel cranks: HOWEVER the process is different than welding a plain jane steel crank. Where are you located? I can point you toward some shops that do diesel cranks. Years ago we had a crank welding class where I worked. We even had a special class once for the Cat people on welding 3406 Cat cranks. How can I contact you? I think your ER motor uses a larger wrist pin so that means different pistons and rods.

Tony you are right, I was trying to keep it short and go from memory. My email is for those who need it. phone 724-253-4285. Steve,I have heard very little issues with welding one jernal but all most every ones says never weld multiples or the whole thing. There are shops that claim to be able to do it but they also have to re-heat treat it. Where are you at? I mite be some help on those parts for a rebuild just depends on what you want to do. Irv
