8.3 swap

Will an 8.3 fit in an 1850 or 2-105 tub?

Boy i do not think so as it is a lot bigger then a BT .

Are u using a 2150 tub

yea we are that is what came on it . we have a 13 inch opening in the bottom and this is fine and the width at the top is fine but on a small tub she is not going to fit. The Herc engine is about the same size as the 8.3 cummins . the bellhousing on the herc is a little narrower and sofar as we see it the rea mounts will have the bolt that goes down thru dead center of the side plate that mounts to the Type 2 bellhousing . The ft. mounts will be of a L shape . the oil pan is the big stumbling block due to ft. drive shaft . After and hour with Cummins yesterday on the phone we found out that we MUST keep no less the six gallons of oil in this engine at all times (1) due to cooling of the oil as oil temps must be kept at around 215-240 degrees and (2) there is three gallon of oil in suspension while running at high idle and that leaves three gallon in the pan . So here we will have to flare out the bottom and extend to the read to make up for what we have to cut out to clear the drive shaft. . Plus we may have to add a ft. sump with a flow back line . So since we HAVE to cut the oil pump pick up tube and shorten it and add 2 1/2 inches in length finding the correct tubing was the next problem and that was a easy cure . This IS NOT A HARD swap it just takes a lot of running and lots of phone calls . Also it is not what you know but WHO yo know and where to go to get what ya need and where to look. Had this been a two wheel drive she would have been setting outside the shop by now and other then motor mounts everything ya need is OFF THE SHELF parts and a check book. Once we are done with this one we are looking for the next one as we will have this one down and that will make the next one a lot easier . Plus where are you going to have a 200 Plus Hp. tractor for UNDER 8500 bucks . Yea ok it does not have A/C and yea at this time it does not have a 30 or 50 gal. a min and 2500 psi Hyd system BUT with a little more work that can be added . Just like heat in the cab as we are going to add heat and we are going to put it up in the cab blower housing add a cab kit and add in some rubber mounts and a couple gallon of paint and we have a tractor that will do the job and we do not need a lap top to figure out what is wrong. We have even talked about doing a Cummins swap into and older small 4wheel drive bend in the middle that had a V8 in it or maybe a 4366 and replace the 466 with a 8.3 . We are having way tomuch fun .

I put a 5.9 in a 1955 cockshutt it was easy and turnd out nice I have 2-105 tub I was going to see if 8.3 would fit in it I have 1755 cockshutt to put a 5.9 in for a feed grinder tractor
