ricb 02-16-2013 16:47:33 74.78.223.145 Report to Moderator	i was thinking the other day while trying to get the 2-155 started, i wonder which models of oliver tractors were produced with factory 4wd. if i'm not mistaken this was the first brand of tractor with true 4wd from the factory in row crop versions. am i correct in my thinking? I need to check further, but the throttle is on the column. The front axles they used were Clark axles. I'm also looking to find to find the castings that bolt to the main engine tub of tractor, along with the frame work that the axle bolts onto. It is everything that is above the axle assembly if anyone knows of one. Need it for another project [Reply]  [No Email]

Alan K 02-17-2013 08:32:28 208.83.191.64 Report to Moderator	Re: oliver 4wd in reply to Dalet, 02-16-2013 18:36:47   The first MM tractor that was equipped with front wheel drive from the factory was on a 5 Star in 1959, as show in the picture, but to my knowledge they werent ever put into production as MM was changing model designations. In 1960 the M5 models came out and shortly there after the M504 with front wheel drive, as well as the G704 with front wheel drive. To me the G704 is technically a wheatland model but the M504 could be used for row crop farming. Oliver had the most clearance under the front axle with the hydraulic drive units on them. The prototype Oliver 1800 and 1900 FWA were built in 1961. A few A series 1800 & 1900 tractors with front wheel assist were built in 1962. Schwiebert, 02-17-2013 08:41:19   As far as I know the front axles that MM used were the Elwood and Coleman ones on various models. From what I have heard they did also install one on a 4 Star MM sometime in 1959-61 which also wasnt put into production. Im guessing the thinking at that time being why do you need front wheel drive on a 45hp tractor? And now days....it is hard to find one without it. [Reply]  [No Email]

Elwood I don't think made the axle, Elwood made some front ends for IH as well later on. I know they used a Spicer(Dana) as we had a farmer come see us looking for a part quick like.
