im rebuilding the diesel engin in my 1655 and the new kits have a orange and a black o-ring per sleeve witch is the top and bottom orange on top? and the block has pittting right above the top o-ring on 5 of the cylinders what do yous do about that, ive had a couple of engins with that before but usaly only like 1 or 2 cylinders on thoses i cleaned and dryied and filled and smothed off with syilicone any thoughts thanks

The proper fix on that sleeve bore is to have it machined out and press an insert in there($60.00 per hole i think it was last time).Any qualified machine shop should be able to steer you in the right direction. Option "B" i have done once in a pinch:Use jb weld to fill the pits then smooth it off with some emery cloth then buff it.I believe the orange ring goes to the oil side (bottom)

I pretty sure the orange o-ring goes on the coolant side. I was told the orange one was made made of natural rubber and would swell when exposed to engine oil and distort the sleeve. That's why you use soap when lubing the o-rings not grease or o-ring lube.

Block pitting is normal in all engines using coolant. Im a heavy duty mechanic and fix this issue almost every day. Jb weld is the way to go but takes time but works excelent. Ive noticed the new red long life coolant seems to cut down on this problem due to acids and other chemicals are gone from the green coolant. Hope that will help you out on your decision.. duane
