2-70 thermostat

How far should the thermostat on 2-70 open up. I have the thermostat out and put it in a can of water. I heated the water up to over 200 deg. and when I took it out it was opened up uneven. About 3/16" on one side and between 3/16" and 1/8" on the other side. The problem is in the spring when it is 80 deg. or above if I pull it close to PTO speed it will run right up to the HOT on temp. gauge. This spring I took the side covers off in front of the radiator and that helped some. Injector pump is turned up 10%, timing is 4 deg. BTDC, radiator is clean inside & out, will be putting kit in water pump so that will be good. Is there anything that I am missing? Thanks.

Chuck it and replace.

No point in risking severe overheating for the cost of a 'stat. Especially if you actually mean 10% extra power.

My 2-70 last spring started running warm on evan cool days. The dealer offered to do a motor job on it (everybody is a comedian). I pulled the thermastat and tested it in hot water. I started grinding the edge a little thicking that it was sticking. Well I went back to the dealer and bought a new thermastat, got home and opened the box, no gasket. If you have your tractor apart, put a new thermastat in, so it won"t go bad in the field on you. Just my two cents, ;)
