Oliver 1365 Diesel tractor info needed

Hello everyone,
I have a good friend of mine that is looking at a 1365 Oliver diesel tractor with the Fiat engine. Is this a Oliver painted Fiat tractor? Did other manufacturers use Fiat engines in tractors too? This tractor is for sale on a local Agco dealer lot. I have not seen the tractor myself. It has 2xxx hours on it. Good rear rubber. Good paint. Dealer wants $7000.00 for it. My friend wants a utility tractor is this hp range because he has a custom round baling business in summer for area horse hay buyers. So he mows a lot of county and township road ditches and some small acreages. He has a 5' rotary disc mower and would rake hay also. He round bales too, but could this tractor handle making say 5'x5' bales at the largest? My friend grew up with JD his whole life, and his dad won't even consider letting my friend buy anything but JD. He doesn't have that kind of money, and he doesn't care if it is a JD or not. Sorry I don't have any pics of this tractor, it is 25 miles away from my farm. What is the good or bad things to look for if my friend is serious about buying this tractor? Thank you everyone.

These were really good utility size tractors.59 claimed hp seems kinda high. That being said it probably would have a hard time with a round baler. But it should work great with a square baler and 5 ft or larger cutter.Someone might chime in about how much hp needed for a 5x5 baler. The tractor sold new for $9000,so 7000 seems really high to me.2000 hrs is not a lot for these engines if they were taken care of.Only bad thing i can say about this tractor is the radiator because of grill design sucks up alot of debris[clean often and install a screen in front of radiator].In my part of the country 4500 would be well paid,a little more for really good rubber.I still own a 445 long[fiat built]that has 7500 hrs on it and still going. It is a 3 cyl.the 1365 is a 4 cyl.

I have a 1365 with a loader on it. I have had it for a couple years and use it to move hay for a few cows. I like it, but I don't think it will handle much of a round baler...should do fine on a mower or a rake. For $7,000 it better be very nice, mine was less than that with a nice loader...bought at an auction. Mine is not mint, but pretty decent...has around 5,000 hrs. For a diesel it starts great even in the cold.

unless he is on his dad's gravy train he needs to tell him to get stuffed if he is spending his own money, neighbor had a 1465, I ran it a few times didn't seem too bad and it started good, front end and rims were a little light for loader work

7000 for a 38plus year old tractor it's just not worth it,i don't care what shape its in.Not when you can find much newer[and easier to find parts for]tractors with like hrs for that price.

Here's a link to the good and bad ones. The 1365 is rated very good as a FWA and excellent as a two wheel drive.
I've found one myself,FWA with a loader. Just waiting for the weather to warm up a few degrees to go look at it.
Good and bad imports

I have a 2WD 1365 and a 4WD 1365 and really like both tractors think they are rated at 55HP so they'd be marginal on a round baler of much size.Good loader tractors and well built, very dependable.BUT $7000 is way to much for one in my opinion I gave $500 for the 2WD it had like 2000 hrs and no show piece but great mechanically.Gave $3250 for the 4WD and its looks great. They are very similar to the Long 550 and 560 models and many parts will interchange.

just for comparison,as far as jd, the dealer that I used to work at in Pipestone had a decent looking 2840 with nice tires, it had a nice Miller loader on it. I rebuilt the HI-LO clutch packs, pto clutch pack and put in a new hydraulic pump and they sold it for $8000

Thanks for the info Doug. My friend's dad wants him to buy a ridiciously over priced JD 2755 with a cab for $20,000. I told him he's nuts. LOL
