30.5s

got my 77 head up to the machine shop right now getting checked over and thinking of putting bigger valves in it. does anyone know what size valves are in an 880 and if they will fit into a 77 head?

30.5, I can't tell you the size, but they are quite a bit bigger and will go right in, just grind the seats to fit and port the head. did mine 30+ years ago without changing the seats and never had a problem. good luck, Chuck PS, there are bumps in either the exhaust or intake ports,, can't remember which, just polish them, if you grind to much on them you will hit water

One other thing you need to watch is stem height. Before I worked in the machine shop I did a couple like Chuck said and I would put Super 77 valves in them. After that I did them "right' so to say, seats on the exhaust valves correct stem height, etc. The rocker supports and push rods are longer than on a Super. You may need to do some modification to them. Is this to farm with or just play with? If you are going to farm with it what is the bore size and have you though of adding exhaust seats because of the unleaded fuel. A 550 valve would also make a good option as well. Does your machine shop have "bowl cutters" It makes for a nice job. My 2 cents worth.

for a 320 inch 77 would a 770 head be better or should I spend the money that a 770 head would cost me on flow work instead and use the 77 head?

the head is on a 400 plus cube motor and was planning on pulling in Div 3 so I was trying to find some air flow. I was thinking of a Murphy's intake and a little polsihing. dont know what to run for a carb, got one with the motor but dont know enough about it yet.

from what I've read the 77,88,s77,s88,770 and 880 have the same stem dia. but i dont know the head size or valve length, the 550 thing is new to me but willing to look at.

[I haven't even shopped for Oliver valves but can someone find them at an old Oliver dealer/now agco shop?
