I have a 1750 diesel with a bad engine, too nice of tractor to scrap out but i am finding the 310 engines are hard to come up with and expeeeensive. Is there a more reliable engine that will swap in and look right? How bout easier to find and inexpensive? Thanks, Adam

I am just finishing my overhaul, it is expensive to rebuild them too if you are doing it right. New kit, line bored, deck blocked, head redone, injection pump, is right at about $5,000. But it is still American Made, and made with quality. I have another that was gas we are just putting a cummings in as well and that project will be about $3000 without the engine, but the cummins we are hoping will last longer, a few more horses, and better on fuel. Total proejct we are hoping for about 9,000-10,000 all done.

Probably would have cost less and given you a better tractor if you'd have found an 1850 diesel that was beat in to the ground, used the frame from that and a Perkins out of a low hour combine.

what is the diffrence in the 1750 and 1850's? i thought i read they both used the 310 only the 1850 was turbo'd? Sorry... my first serious 4 digit oliver experience. I read a lot of perkins suggestions for the 1850, and would rather avoid the commings transplant. Thanks, Adam

Hate to say it, but everything is expensive now days. Unless you put a take out Perkins engine into that tractor, your going to rack up a few grand pretty quick on that tractor.

I did bought a 1850 for the tub, frount end, bellhousing and a few other parts. The costly stuff is hte flywheel to bolt to a cummins, hub and clutch. But I know it is done right as well. The $2000 is the Wide frount end to the tractor everything i needed minus the engine.

a rebuilt 310 in a 1755 would still be a good engine, I wouldn't be afraid of one with a proper rebuild with updated rod bolts and 1-piece pin bushings, they are a good starting economical engine

I wouldnt mind doing that, this engine has a spun main bearing that wiped out the block pretty bad, i dont know if it will be able to be saved or not, so was just trying to explore other options. Thanks for all the help. Adam

You need to be informed a little more. If it was me I would find a shop that can repair the block perhaps a sleeve will need to be used. If they are still available I would also try to get a replacement noddlar iron cap. The crank also needs to be checked to see what the Rockwell hardness of that main is. A good 310 set at 80 H P will run a long time. My 2 cents worth

I'd forget about the Cummins. Was any part of the 354 Perkins in the 1850 that you bought? If you have that engine to rob the parts from, all you need is a 354 Perkins from one of many different makes and models of Massey or White combine.

What are your plans for the tractor? Farm? What jobs do you need it for? I had a 1750 bust a crank and we sold 310, bought a front tub off an 1850, and put a 354 Perkins marine engine in. Came out great, and was cheaper (and more reliable) than rebuilding the 310. Or option "B" would be to cut your losses, part out what you have left, and put your money into a nice 2-85 White, which I might add could be had for around $7500-9500. With that you have better hydraulics and better brakes and the reliability of a Perkins. Just my 2 cents. Sorry, just seen WAAAY too many bad things happen with the 310.
