354 Perkins in a 1655

Thinking about doing a repower project with a 1655. Have a 354 Perkins turboed engined available to me. What would need to be done to put the 354 in the 1655? Would it be a complicated/expensive project?

There are those more informed on here than I, but down to basics. The 1550-1655 frame is not as wide as the 1750-1955. From the transmission forward, the front tub frame is different on an 1850 diesel which is set up for the Perkins. The otheres are set up for the Waukasha, except for the 1950 which had the Detroit. To my knowledge, this 1850D tub would not bolt up to a 1650-55 main transmission. Can the current 1655 tub be modified enough for the 354 and get everything to line up? Maybe, don't know.

do a hunt thru the archives for Shep Va
back around 03-05 maybe
he did one in a 1655
also did more in other Olivers

Good Luck

Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated. I knew about the 1850s with Perkins, only thing is I have a 1655 without an engine already available to me, and a 354 Perkins as well.

It's not the one in the Farmer's Advance. I'm in Ontario, and neither tractor nor engine are listed for sale.

OK,there's been one advertised in Michigan with a bad engine. Says everything else is good. Been tempted to call. My 1600 has a good engine but the front end is rough, other things are leaking and wearing out. It's a temptation to put that 1600 engine in a 1655.

rrlund,

Here is a 1650 in KY at a pretty good price?
