RFD-TV Rose Parade Float

dads 88

As an Oliver man I was honored that RFD-TV chose a model 70 to style their float after. I realize that a 60 or a 70 would have been the simplest tractor to make out of flowers, even so it still made me proud. Rather surprised that no one thought to mention it yet.

I saw that, looked good. The announcer said he had previously called it a "John Deere" but someone had corrected him, who knew their tractors, ands it was actually an Oliver.

70? looked like 80/88 at least. I wonder what is really underneath that floral decoration???
I counted only 11 "rare" tractors leading the rfd float--what happened to the 31 they were looking for?? That's gotta be a lot of work to put together.

The big tractor was a replica of a Oliver 70. It was powered by a 454 Chevy engine. The driver was behind the grille. RFD wanted 31 tractors but the parade committee told them they could not have that much air time and cut them down to 13 tractors. I was one of the 13 on my 66 Standard.

Go over to the case board, they have posted a link to the video.  Click on the link and you can see the tractors.  There is a neat 66 Standard on the video.

Only pic I could find.

Dang, I watched part of that parade, but missed that part evidently. We don't get RFD here in the Vancouver area. We do get about 300 chanels, but a lot of them are only good for composting.

Anybody here on the Oliver that made it in?

I kept switching between channels when one went to a commercial. My wife was watching on another TV on a different channel. Out of the 3, 2 never even showed the RFD float. I sent each an e-mail. One channel even stated after each commercial that no parade participants were missed because of commercials. Float was nice but the best touch was the real tractors. I even noticed they had a Kubota with front wheel assist and a loader. Not exactly what I would consider antique.

Thanks for psoting, I watched the parade on TV but somehow missed this. I remember seeing tractors but maybe they went to a comercial at that time.

Kubota is a big advertiser on RFD, that is why there was one in the parade. "Take care of your customers." It was a 1983 4 wheel drive (no loader). They just purchased the tractor in AZ last week for the parade and spent 3 days painting and getting it ready for the parade. They did a pretty good job for 3 days work. They say they are now going to tear it down and do it right.

I agree, on the chanel I watched I saw an overhead view of tractors on the street, and there was nothing said of either the tractors or the float. It was probably in the last half an hour of the televised event.
