88 running hot ?

I have a 88 motor that will run hot after about 15-20 minutes of running at a idle. Also getting some water in the oil. Could be head gasket, cracked head. What else? Got the motor from someone else so I don"t know much about it no smoke and all the cylinders check out with good and even compression.

Take the valve cover off. The 88 will have soft plugs in the head under the valve cover. Check those first. Next thing I would check is the sealing rings on the sleeves. Have you checked the thermostat?

I bough 77 diesel once from a guy said it ran great . took it to plow day half way down the field it over heated. a mouse got in to the thermostat and built a nest must have left the rad cover off a one time.

Have changed the thermostat. Not alot of water getting into the oil.
