Oliver number 5 picker

Good old picker but misses too many ears. The snapping roll adjustment seems rusted in place.I hope someone on this site can enlighten me on how this adjustment works. Thanks in advance.Lee

Lee, do you have an operators manual? If not, you can get one from Floyd County Museum...don't have their nimber but someone will.
I can't hardly imagine where it could get froze up that bad. There are places to adjust the tension on the outside snap roller about 1/4 way up the snaproller.

Thanks Larry. You have given me a place to start in finding an owners manual.I had already found the adjustment you are talking about but am uncertain how it works.I saved it from being scrapped last year.I couldnt believe how well it worked after many years in a fence row.I bought it last because I wasnt sure I could get on my 2 row new idea after knee surgery. Now this year I am late finishing picking because of hip replacement lol. This old machine has worked so well it has convinced me to try to find some other oliver equipment.I hope it is all this well made!

Reminds me of two guys near here who bought one of those together. Somebody had taken it apart and put the rolls back on oposite where they should be so when they turned, they spiraled down instead of up. Wouldn't pick corn for nothin. The one guy bought the other ones half, then spent some time and figured it out. Made a heck of a nice picker after that.

Rrlund I think its me thats spiraling down instead of the picker.Actually it works great except for sometimes leaving some pretty big ears attached to the stalk.I think if I could close the rolls a little it would help.By the way I enjoyed the pics you posted of Pall Mall in the fall.I live on the south end of the county across from the General Store you like to visit during the 127 yard sale.Ive meant to tell you that if you want I could move enough of my junk so you could park your camper here a few days.

I might take you up on that some time. We like to rent a cabin at Sunset Resort over in Byrdstown. Real nice place there. Nice air conditioned cabins, walking distance from a great swimming beach. My favorite place in the world to vacation.

The township north of the dealer where I was employed was about 90% John Deere. We always said we will let them plant if with there Deere planters, but probably 90% of it got picked with an Oliver picker. There were a few New Idea & IH pickers.
