1755 injector pump

I need to replace the two seals on the drive shaft of the injector pump. Is the best way to do this, pull the front cover off and remove drive gear and shaft? Manual says to turn engine direction of rotation until timing marks in pump line up. What's the best way to turn a diesel over, put a socket on crankshaft pulley bolt? I assume a diesel will turn over harder than a gas? Thanks for the help.

A 1-1/8 inch socket will tun the engine with no problem. When you get ready to pull the pump drive shaft, unhook the throttle rod at the pump and run a small wire through the clevis pin hole and wire the throttle shaft down so there is tension on it. take the round cover off of the front cover and remove the timing gear then pull the drive shaft. After the new seals are installed, grease the one that goes in the pump so you do not cut the new seal. watch is carefully. Once you have everything back together, roll the engine backwards about 1/4 turn and then roll it ahead and double check your timing marks. J.
