660 battery access panel

Should all 660's have the panel in the hood that is held down by four screws and not the attached cover that flips up. I have seen a 660 and a late model Super 66 that had the flip up cover that just did not seem correct.

I'm not one to say never, but didn't they change all of them to the big cover with the improved Supers in 57?

Yes, but not all the changes that we take for granted for the 1957 model year did not occur in January. I did look in my 660 parts book and it show the first Super 66 tractor with the large battery door started at serial number 50 586. My neighbor down the road has a very late Super 66 (1957 model). It has key start, red wheels, the big battery door, small headlights, but does not have the word Oliver in the fenders. My employer had a Super 55 in the shop that had the late hydraulics, key start, red wheels, but it still had the larger headlights. My employer has a 1957 Super 88 diesel. We called Charles city to see what date it was built. It is an early 57 model. It does not key start. Why? The Super 88 diesels did not get key start
till in April of 57. I have (maybe had) a Service bulletin that gave the days when all the models when to key start.

At mid year 1957 at serial#50585 they went to the four bolts which would include all 660's. If someone has a 660 with the flip up cover they probally needed a hood and found one from a 66 or early super
