88 gas when i pull lever wide open and adjust for 1/16 over travel, when return lever to idle position ,it lacks 1/2inch adjustment from gov lever touching buffer screw. its as if gov lever has to much range of travel to get proper idle and wide open adjustment.any advise would be welcome.

I had that trouble on a 66. All I can say is,precision guesswork. I kept trying til I was satisfied with the results.

i can,t visualize way there,s so much gov lever travel. spool assembly looks good, new brass replacement bushing in block don,t want to grenade fresh new motor.

That's the only one I ever had that wouldn't adjust by the book, but I set it that way, then just kept taking the pin out and turning it one turn at a time and starting it up and checking it. Finally got it idled down where I wanted it without it surging and still not running too fast either. Good luck.

How much wear is on the gear? Before the days of the new style bushings we had some tractors with high hours running around that had two of the K 289 thrust washers to take up some of that wear. How much wear is on the pivot edge of the weights and in the pin area? Probably 90% of the governor arms need to have the holes brazed shut and new holes drilled in them because of wear in that area as well. The same is true for worn linkage. Is this a farm tractor or a pulling tractor? If using for farm work you need 19 active coils on your governor spring

should i start with 1/16 over on fast side and idle side not on buffer or set idle on buffer? and go that way? thanks havent started motor yet.

there was no thrust washer.i have added 2 thrust washers on 77 that had bad wear on block worked fine. its a 451 ci puller
