1655 vibration

I'm working on a 1655 diesel with a vibration in the clutch housing or over/under area. It has broke a couple ears off the bell housing that are going to have to be repaired. The over/under seems to be sagging at the chain coupler area. If I pry up on the rear of the housing the vibration goes away. I've worked on other Olivers that had a support bolt up through the bottom of the tub to help support the aux.drive unit and align the chain coupler. Should I install such a bolt in this application? Also if I end up replacing the clutch housing, what tractor models have a housing that will work? Will a clutch housing for a two speed unit work with a three speed unit? Thanks in advance for your thoughts or advice.

Yes, by all means add the leveling bolt. You need a good tap and drills. It will be much easier if you drill and tap it when the engine is out. Now early 1655 frames were not drilled for the bolt. Later ones were. 1750 and up models always had the hole in the frame. I would need to check a parts book but I think your bell housing is the same.

If I remember right on an 1800 A series my dad had years ago, the bolt was installed and a piece of flat iron with a countersunk hole in it that the bolt screwed up against so the bolt wouldn't rub on hydro-power case, Might have been a dealer thing to do this I dont remember

If it never had the vibration before I would check a few things. Are or were any of the 4 engine mounting bolts run loose, and if so are the mounting pads worn down causing the misalignment? If so shim it up. Unhook the chain coupler and feel the transmission input shaft for play. If the tapered roller bearings are loose this will also cause a bad vibration.

I like the idea of the alignment bolt to tweak it perfectly, however I"m wondering if there is not a cause for the misalignment.
