Pays to have parts

The 1600 had problems a few weeks ago. It wouldn't stop when I pushed the clutch pedal down,so I took the loader off and put it on the 1550 for the time being. I got time to pull the engine yesterday. The fingers were all worn right off the pressure plate. When I took it off,the facing fell off the back side of the clutch in two pieces.
I went and looked on the pallets in the corner of the toolshed. There was a like new pressure plate and a good clutch. The splines on the flywheel end of the PTO long shaft were about 90% gone too. The one out of that parts tractor was good,so I got the whole thing back together without spending a dime.
The $600 I paid for that parts tractor two and a half years ago is still paying interest.

In about two years I am moving back home to Illinois after over 30 years in California I have several 60's a 66 and a 62w baler that probably won't make the trip plus all my other parts and "good stuff" that I have to decide what stays or goes. Not easy choices cause we just never know what we may need. Glad to hear when you can do a major repair for just your own hard work.

I know what you mean about what stays and what goes. I made the mistake of selling a few parts off that parts tractor. Wouldn't you know it,one was a casting from that PTO long shaft,so instead of just being able to slide the whole unit in,I had to take some big snap rings off and frog around changing some things.
Best when you save everything I guess. Never know what you'll need.

I know what you mean. Still hoping we don't need anything else from the 1755 we sold this summer to buy a chopper, but we did get our value from it as a parts tractor before selling it. We took all 4 tires from it, putting the 18.4-34's on our 285 last year and the fronts are on both the 285 and the 1855. I borrowed a spindle for the 1855 this spring when one broke the weld to the shaft. I fixed that one as part of the agreement selling it and put it in the 17. Still gotta fix the other spare we have.

We did keep the drawbar and a few other things yet. Wish I would have pulled the radiator screen from it.
