super 88 diesel

I have a super 88 diesel that has a strange problem. On high rpms it starts to combustion knock and miss. It does'nt do it all the time. I thought it was an injector staying open. I swapped the injectors with 6 known to be good and no luck. This is a horrible knock with white and black smoke. It is fine at a brisk idle with a very slight miss. Energy cells are clear. The engine starts good hot or cold. I have drained fuel and filters and added fresh fuel. Any help would be appreciated.

start by taking the exhaust manifold off and see which cylinder the smoke is coming from.

Do like johns said. Are you having sticking valves issues and on the same topic, weak valve springs?
