oliver super 77 noise, need help!

Hi everyone, new to the forum and tractor in general. I have a question about a super 77 with the gas 6 cyl in it that I just bought. It seems to have a noise in the motor when its running free as in no load. I cant really seem to hear it when moving or when I am using hydraulics. But then it returns once you stop or quit using the hydraulics. You can even seem to feel it some throughout the tractor and when you touch the crankcase. I dont seem to feel it when i touch like the generator or valve cover nearly as much so it makes me think its internal. Although it doesnt really sound like a rod noise to me, maybe a thrust issue since it stops when loaded? Any thoughts on this would really be appreciated!
 
its very possible, I dont know anything about these motors and sometimes the noises can be hard to track down. Are the gears in this motor close to the mid point by the distributor?
 
No, but noises travel and can be misleading as to where they originate. Can you short out one cylinder at a time and see if the noise goes away.?
 
get a really long dowel or something similar and use it as a stethascope and listen to one end and touch the other end to different places on your tractor
 
I would pull off the PTO cover and then pull out the PTO shaft that goes up in the engine,, this might help isolate the problem area.

I agree with ollie4. I"d pull the PTO Shaft and go from there. Doesn"t take that long to pull it. Four bolts underneath the power take off shaft. Then remove cover. Then remove 3 bolts in behind of the pto clutch pack then if the noise still persist I"d say it be in the engine itself.

thanks for all the suggestions everyone, I have tried some with no change, havent done the PTO but will try this weekend, also found a very knowledgeable local guy who said he would stop by and take a listen
