550 sleeve o rings

Have a 550 oliver that is leaking antifreeze around the sleeve. do you have to split the tractor to get the sleeves out to replace the orings. thanks

No. Just pull the head and pan. I just changed the ones in my Super 55 about two months ago because they were leaking bad. They're a lot easier to pull than dry sleeves.

I hope you don't run in to what I did. The old sleeves and the block were pitted pretty bad. The sleeves were so bad that I ended up putting new ones in. I filled the block with JB Weld then ground it back out smooth with a Dremel. I don't know if it was really necessary to go that far,but my son works in an engine machine shop and does this stuff for a living,so I did what he recomended. He said too, that when I put it back together, instead of using liquid soap for a lubricant, use plumbers pipe dope compound. I did,and along with the new sleeves and the JB Weld,as rough as everything was when I tore it down,it doesn't leak a drop.

By the way, those rear pan bolts, you'll need a long 3/8ths drive extension and a shallow 1/2 inch,3/8ths drive socket to reach up through that slot in the casting.
