Detroit Diesel 4-53 in Cockshutt

The engine does not have governor control. Injectors and linkage to injectors are fine. Operate freely. What should I look for in the governor and who is a good source for used parts for Detroit Diesel?

Well have you had the cover off the governor and inspected the weights and bearings? Do you have a 53 series INDUSTRIAL shop manual?

Check to make sure all these parts are in order. The high speed spring may be broken.

We have some 4-53 core/parts engines, but I don't know what side or rotation they are. Call 800-828-6943 Monday and ask for Cody, he's our Detroit guy.

I don't have my shop book here and I don't do these on a regular daily thing, but those 53 series tractor engines had an external spring governor which was probably only used on the tractors. I just found a shaft and weight assembly for one when I was cleaning a half hour ago. It laid around too long, it is scrap.
