Gas and diesel use the same piston. Where are you located? Also make sure you put inserts in the head and set the valve recession to the correct specs to improve starting. A set of 3-5/8 sleeves & pistons will also help with the starting. Have you checked for any sleeve & piston sets that were superceeded by the 163 109-AS set

I am located in Kentucky. We bought the tractor few years back. It started very hard. Took engine apart this summer it had bad pistons and sleeves. Very suprised it would even start. I have the 3 pistons/sleeve assemblies and got them at a good price. It is my Grandsons tractor and he is running on a small budget. Would I be better off to sell my 3 sleeves/pistons and upgrade to the 3 5/8 set?

Find me on the HPOCA site and send me a message. Reworking the cylinder head is a big key to better starting.
