1365 jump out of 4th

my father-in-law is looking at a 1365 mfwd that jumps out of 4th gear. is im sure ill have to split it, but is this a cheap part fix, or is the tranny junk.

It could be wear on the shifting fork or ball and socket that allows it to go from upper to lower range.Never had problems with the tranny itself on my fiat built long tractors.Which is similar to the 1365.Maybe someone else can chime in.
