3sp over shifts to under

We have a 3sp that runs great in under and direct, but when you shift it into over, it goes into under again. The shifter is working fine, the control spool moves into all 3 positions when I disconnect the linkage, but we don"t have an over. It free wheels when the shifter is in over, so I feel pretty confident that it is actually shifting into under instead of over. Anyone ever seen this? I"d rather not pull then engine because it seems like this has to be a flow issue rather than a clutch issue.
 
are you sure the overdrive clutch is sound. i know that if direct clutch pack is out they will stay in underdrive until shifted to overdrive
 
sounds like your over drive clutch is gone.,, if the sealing ring is cracked it will still act like it wants to grab over drive, but no over drive is most likely plates are gone , to check the pressures , right by the oil filter is 2, 1/8 in pipe plugs ,the front one is direct drive clutch, the rear is over drive thanks terry @ tfe.inc
