Honing Sleeves

Do you guys hone sleeves dry or do you put some oil in them? I have the hone with the three long narrow stones. In the past I have used oil in them. Just wondering what you all do.

I have always used diesel fuel.

Don't do it dry, the stones will chatter and give you a rough finish. I like to use the hone with a lot of little balls for the final finish.I use thin oil, atf, or penetrating oil when honing. The cylinders need to be washed out with soap and water to get rid of the stone and metal material after the hone.

I use Dawn soap and water and keep squirt in the bore as you hone.

Me also and lots of it to wash grind out rather than let it dig in.
