one more trany lube pump question

We finally got to the problem of a dry trany lube filter. After taking the pump apart, we found the impeller is 3 pieces. Anyone ever see this before and could using 90-140 oil be the cause? The previous owner stated he used 90-140 trany lube? Maybe it was run when it was too cold one day?

Yes, 4 tractors in the last 5 years using 80w-90. They failed as you describe. The pump gets worn and binds up then cracks apart. Any tractor I have to take the hyd system off gets a new rotor in the pump as standard maintenance any more. Also a new endless chain if its a 55 series.

Adam, does the endless chain require new sprockets. My local dealer is stating it does at a good $ tag. We will be contacting Brad tomorrow to order parts.

I don't remember that it was required. How ever I put the new sprockets on any way as the old were worn. I didn't compare the old to new so I can't say for sure.
